Egyptian Maus
The Egyptian Mau is the only natural domesticated breed of spotted cat. They are moderately active and express themselves by chortling in a soft melodious voice. They were brought to North America in 1956 by the exiled Russian princess, Nathalie Troubetskoy and immediately became popular.
When I started breeding the savannah they were rare and there were so few males. As the first 4 generations of males in the Savannah breed are sterile, I used the acceptable outcross of the Egyptian Mau for my Savannah females. In researching the Mau, I found they had many of the qualities I wanted to bring into my Savannah program. I now do savannah to savannah breeding.
What I didn’t expect was to come to love the exceptional personality of the Mau (Mau is the Egyptian word for cat.). Intelligent and loyal, the Mau has a wonderful personality to match their elegant looks.
Our Egyptian Mau kittens are both CFA and TICA registered. Venus is the “2005 Great Lakes Region Best Egyptian Mau Kitten” and also received “Best Bronze Spotted Tabby Egyptian Mau of the Year” for 2006.
